What Can’t a Good Podcast do??

Nowadays there’s a podcast for everything. They’re informational, they’re convenient and they’re fun! I love podcasts because you can listen to a wide variety of topics, but one of the most helpful topics that I think podcast makers are talking about is mental health. It’s an additional avenue to receive information without having to put much effort into it. When looking for resources to help learn about and cope with mental health illnesses, I always suggest finding a solid podcast about it that speaks to you. I decided to find 5 mental health-related podcasts and share them on here as a resource to those who may be looking for one.

  1. “Mental Illness Happy Hour” (5.0 stars on Apple Podcast)

Paul Gilmartin hosts this podcast and he understands that many people have dealt with mental and emotional trauma at some point in life, though few people feel comfortable or even safe talking about it out loud. On his podcast he interviews a variety of celebrities and noted figures about their experiences with mental illness or trauma.

  1. “The Happiness Lab” (5.0 stars on Apple Podcast)

The host of “The Happiness Lab” is Dr. Laurie Santos of Yale University, and she knows that happiness can sometimes seem unattainable. He also recognizes that not all forms of depression are created equal, it can take as many forms as there are people who have it. John interviews public figures to help you understand this idea, to make you think about the reality of how depression can look different for everyone, and he also provides tips to coping with its many forms.

  1. “Forever35” (5.0 stars on Apple Podcast)

Co-hosts Doree Shafrir and Kate Spencer talk about the reality around wellness and self-care, especially among people in their thirties. It discusses daily mental tasks and burdens, along with ways to survive busy workweeks and find moments of calm.

Clearly everybody is different and different podcasts will resonate with some better than others. I simply wanted to share my research about some great podcasts to listen to when you’re struggling with mental health illnesses or you know someone who is. I’m excited to dive deeper into each of these podcasts to learn more about mental health and myself! If you have any mental health-related podcasts that you love please share them on here.
