What got you interested in learning about mental health?
- There are two main things that got me interested in learning about mental health. The first is my experiences with several family members and friends who deal with it every day. I have always wanted to connect with them more and be able to truly help them, and I’ve learned that I need to know more about the topic to do so. The second is my own personal struggles with anxiety. I’ve always known that something was a bit off with the way I felt or my viewpoint on certain situations. My husband has been extremely helpful and supportive of me learning more about myself in this process so that’s my current journey.
How can I learn more about mental health illnesses?
- There are countless resources dedicated to teaching about mental health. You can search for blogs and articles on the topic, or you can consult a professional. I highly suggest consulting a professional if this is something significant in your life because it can only be beneficial.
What have you found helps with your anxiety?
- Although it is different for everyone, I’ve researched a lot of common coping mechanisms. There are a variety of breathing exercises and meditations that I love when I need more immediate help. I also like to exercise, paint, get organized, create plans and simply spend time “pampering” myself when I have more time. It may take time to try different things and determine which works best for you, but it’s definitely worth it to try new things if you need the help.
Can I contact you to discuss this topic?
- Of course! I am not an expert in this topic, but I do have some experience and I would love to help in any way I can. That may look like giving you contact information for a professional, giving my personal tips or simply being someone to talk to. Here are the ways you can contact me:

Do I need to talk about my mental health illness with friends/family?
- This is a common question, and I think it’s one that can definitely be asked of a professional. Depending on the severity of the illness, it can be necessary to share it with those around you. I personally have not shared my story with all of my friends or family members, but I have shared it with those who I think it’s necessary. Telling others makes them aware and more available to help and support you.
